Baldwins Equestrian: competition and rehabilitation yard
Run by Rebecca Duggleby, Baldwins Equestrian is a competition and rehabilitation yard for ponies and horses. Open for three and half years, Rebecca started with the philosophy: "If you want things done properly, do it yourself".
The yard offers rehabilitation for horses that need careful treatment to get them back to full health. Conditions can include owner mistreatment and recovery from major operations such as kissing spines. Horses that have been treated include show jumpers, race horses and weekend hacks. The nearest centre offering a similar service is in Buckinghamshire so Rebecca hasn’t needed to advertise as all her business has come via word of mouth or direct from vets. Rebecca also competes regularly at Hickstead with her stallion and colt.
The horses were originally on straw but Rebecca found that not only were the horses eating the straw but it was messy, had to be changed a lot so wasn’t very cost effective. Since she changed to Nordic Bales the bedding can be laid for a thick and very comfortable bed or arranged for corner bedding. The shavings are easy to manage and maintain. Disposal has become much easier because it compacts and takes up less space which has allowed take away to increase to every two years.
